Family members and friends stated that Majid had recently viewed a social media video showcasing a scenic location referred to as the “Malad Hidden Beach.” Motivated by the visual content, he visited the area on Friday along with friends. During the outing, he reportedly entered the sea and was suddenly caught by strong waves, leaving no opportunity for immediate rescue.
The search and rescue operation continued for several hours along the coastal belt, with naval divers and emergency personnel scanning the waters. However, authorities did not confirm any immediate recovery of the teenager, and search efforts remained ongoing at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Dinesh Salvi raised questions regarding the handling of the rescue operation. He alleged delays in the response and further claimed that one of the boats deployed during the operation encountered difficulties while in the water.
Police have initiated an investigation to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the incident. Authorities have also issued advisories urging visitors to refrain from entering the sea during rough weather conditions, particularly in areas known for strong currents and dangerous wave activity.
The incident has once again highlighted the severe risks posed by unpredictable coastal conditions along Mumbai’s shoreline, especially in zones where unsuspecting visitors may underestimate the strength of sea currents.
